Smart Decoupling Device VCSD
The intelligent short-circuiting device VCSD 40 IP65 (Voltage Controlled Short-Decoupling Device) limits long-term, temporary and transient overvoltages.
The voltage-controlled short-circuiting device of the d.c. decoupler limits long-term a.c. voltages to a preset value without negatively affecting the desired d.c. potential.
Problem: External voltages may cause a.c. corrosion at the pipeline, personal injury and material damage.
Examples of such interference are:
- Stray currents
caused by electric railways - Electromagnetic fields
caused by high-voltage lines - Earth faults and short-circuits
caused by high-voltage lines - Lightning interferences
caused by thunderstorms
Such overvoltage of a certain duration or voltage level activates the VCSD and the overvoltage is discharged to earth without negatively affecting the cathodic protection potential across the pipeline (d.c. potential).
Fields of application
Typical fields of application are cathodically protected systems such as pipelines or storage tanks, indirect earthing of cable shields at accessible locations or corrosion-free connection of isolated earth-termination systems such as signal ground. The VCSD limits overvoltages and their effects in its immediate vicinity to a safe level.
